I am offering this track for free, in order to raise some awareness.
Since rediscovering my passion for composition, I've found that it's a great way to channel thoughts and feelings into something positive - even if the starting point is a negative one.
This is the case here.
The inspiration for this piece comes from recent visits to "The Duke of Lancaster" - an increasingly famous local landmark. A victim of circumstance and bureaucracy, TSS Duke of Lancaster is the last ship of it's kind. It is permanently docked at Llanerch-y-Mor, near Mostyn, North Wales and is in many ways, some would say, a sorry site - and has been so for several decades.
Whenever I see 'The Duke', or often when I am reading updates about her in the Duke of Lancaster Appreciation Society ('DOLAS') Facebook Group, I am saddened and frustrated by the situation this wonderful example of engineering has ended up in, despite the many efforts her owners and groups such as DOLAS.
This piece of music is my attempt to just draw a little bit more attention to "The Duke", and hopefully hints at the forlorn nature of her predicament, her former pride, and perhaps an occasional glimmer of hope for her future.
This is a work in progress, there's a lot more to do here.
I do hope that one day, with enough awareness, I will be writing something far more cheery inspired by the Duke - perhaps if she is ever restored, or if she sails again one day.
